Thursday games headline Bobcats’ gridiron schedule

Jones County Junior College has scheduled  six Thursday football games in the 2017 season.

Head coach Steve Buckley’s Bobcats open the season at East Mississippi in a 7 p.m. game on Aug. 31.

JCJC plays its home opener at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7 against Mississippi Delta in the school’s annual Hall of Fame game.

Jones will then travel to Clarksdale to meet Coahoma in a 7 p.m. contest on Sept. 14.

The Bobcats open MACJC South Division play at home with a 7 p.m. game on Sept. 21 vs. Copiah-Lincoln. JCJC then visits Southwest for a 7 p.m. contest on Sept. 28.

The final Thursday game of the season will be at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 at home against East Central.

Jones then closes the season with three consecutive Saturday games.

The Bobcats travel to Pearl River for a 1 p.m. game on Oct. 14 in the annual “Cat Fight.”

Homecoming will be celebrated on Oct. 21, when the Bobcats play host to Hinds at 2 p.m.

Jones ends regular-season play with a 3:30 p.m. game on Oct. 28, when it travels to face  Mississippi Gulf Coast.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the top two teams from the MACJC North and South divisions square off in a four-team playoff that culminates in the MACJC state championship game on Nov. 11.

Last year, the Bobcats posted a 6-3 overall record and were 3-3 in South Division play.
