South Jones had  rival West Jones Mustangs on the ropes for five innings.

Then the Mustangs found a way to come back and deliver a seventh-inning knockout blow in a battle of Region 5-5A heavyweights in Soso.

Colson Harris’ seventh-inning single scored Hayden Bryan to give West Jones a 4-3 victory over the Braves. The victory improved West Jones to 15-1 on the year, while the Braves fell to 8-6 overall. West also takes a one-game lead over South in the race for the region championship.

The two teams are scheduled to play again on Friday night in Ellisville at 7.

South Jones built a 3-1 lead through five innings on only one hit and five West Jones’ errors.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kris Riley blasted a two-home run to tie the game at 3. Harris ended the game in the next inning.

Andrew Howard had the lone South Jones hit, a double in the top of the sixth inning.

Dustin Dickerson pitched a complete game for West Jones. He allowed two hits on no earned runs. He struck out eight and walked three.

Rickey Boleware pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and three runs. He struck out four and walked two. Reid Goleman pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and took the loss.
