‘Psycho Path’ owner accused of sexually assaulting young girl

An Ellisville man who is the proprietor of the popular local Halloween attraction “Psycho Path” may be on a path to prison, if what his young accuser says is true.

Curtis L. Lowery, 48, is charged with two counts of sexual battery after a relative reported that he had abused her a few years ago, when she was between ages 5 and 9, said Investigator Capt. Tonya Madison of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Lowery’s ex-wife reported the child’s accusations to the JCSD on May 5 and the girl, who is now 12, underwent a forensic interview by a child specialist. The specialist heard details of the incidents and determined that she was being truthful, so charges were filed against Lowery.

“She was able to tell the forensic interviewer what he made her do to him,” Madison said.

Lowery turned himself in at the Jones County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday morning and made his initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court that afternoon. He shook his head, indicating that he did not do what he’s accused of, when a reporter questioned him as he walked back to jail.

Judge Billie Graham set his bond at $10,000. Lowery was represented in court by attorney Jeannene Pacific. He told the judge that he is a videographer.

Lowery is the founder of Psycho Path, which is a “haunted trail” in the woods that’s set up off Buffalo Hill Road in Ellisville every October. On Facebook, Lowery wrote that for the trail’s ninth-year celebration, it will be the most frightening “scary haunted attraction in the country.” He wrote that it would be scarier than ever, “reaching deep into your childhood fears and recreating them in vivid living dead color!!!”

A sexual battery charge means that there was penetration. If convicted, the charge can carry a sentence of up to life in prison.

In a Psycho Path Facebook page post that was made over the weekend, Lowery wrote that he is still casting for the part of a “pinup girl,” and the theme this year will tell the story of “a child drawn into the woods by a witch and possessed and resides in a small child’s play house out in the woods.”
