Billy Jack Dykes, 78, of Soso/Big Creek Community died May 13, 2017.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and Thursday from 2-3 p.m. at Big Creek Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 3:00. Interment will follow at the Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Colonial Chapel in Laurel/Calhoun is in charge of the arrangements. Brother Justin Rhodes, Brother Howard Parker and Brother Kenneth Flynt will officiate.
Mr. Dykes was a native of Jones County. He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church and was a retired brick mason. Mr. Dykes served 10 years in the Army National Guard, with one year active duty. He was the recipient of The Army Expert Shooting Badge with a Carbine Qualification Bar and a recipient of The Mississippi Metal of Efficiency.
Mr. Dykes is survived by wife Karen Shows Dykes; mother Doris Strickland Dykes; children Deana Stevison (Jimmy Gatwood), Delane (Greg) Carr, Demarla (Clark) Green, Delilah (Dale) Malone; brothers J.H. (Elizabeth) Dykes and Eddie (Robin) Dykes; sisters Carolyn (Jimmy) Hendry, Linda (Ken) Day, Pam (Joe) Pate and (Myrtle Lee Dykes); grandchildren Jeremy (Nacole) Loftin, Jessica Stevison (Brandon Graves), Kayla Stevison (Josh) Nichols, Joelle Knight (Brett Hudson), Jentry Loftin (Kent) Lowe, Laura Stevison (Michael) DuBois, Jack (Bethany) Thornton, Brennen Green, Madelynn Malone and Macy Kate Malone; great-grandchildren Dylan Loftin, Caleb Nichols, Rylei Loftin, Landon Pool, Kaden Stevison, Noah McLain, Lexi Ramos, Lane Pool, Lakyn Pool, Easton Thornton, Brayleigh Thornton, Ryder DuBois and Cruz Loftin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dykes was preceded in death by his father John H. Dykes; mother Myrtle Parker Dykes; brother Keith Dykes; and niece Kay Dykes.
Serving as pallbearers will be the grandsons of Mr. Dykes: Jeremy Loftin, Kent Lowe, Jack Thornton, Brennen Green, Brett Hudson, Brandon Graves, Michael DuBois and Josh Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews Joe Shows, James Shows, Brooks Collins, Kelby Shows, Kasey Shows, Richard Hendry, Steven Hendry, Jason Dykes, Jacob Dykes, Gary Dykes, Donnie Dykes, Brian Young, Kyle Young, Chris Rand and Brent
Rand. His great-grandsons will be junior pallbearers.
