Carolyn Ruth Gough VanDevender Patrick — daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, CPA, Duplicate Bridge Life Master. She was born on May 19, 1935, in Meridian. She passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2018, in Laurel.
Come join the celebration of her life at a memorial service for her at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bessie and J.B. Gough Jr., as well as her husband JD Patrick Jr., her daughter Claire VanDevender Price Brown and her grandson Christopher Joseph Price.
She is survived by her daughter Terry VanDevender Stephenson, her grandson Patrick Hardy Brown, her sister Doris Gough Gray and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She worked as a bookkeeper at the Laurel Leader-Call for many years while attending and after graduating from Jones County Junior College and then the University of Southern Mississippi with a BS degree in accounting. After she obtained her CPA, she was employed at Holt, Stevens and Associates and worked there until retirement.
She loved to play bridge. She played regularly and enjoyed attending bridge tournaments. It was a life-long hobby that lasted more than 40 years.
