David B. Dickerson, 68, of Ellisville died Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg surrounded by his wife and three children.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Ellisville Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial at Friendship Baptist Church. Brother Johnny Bryant and Brother Richard Scott will officiate. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Tywana Adams Dickerson of Ellisville; son Scott Dickerson and wife Tama Hodge of Fairfield, Texas; grandson Charles Brewer Dickerson of Fairfield; two daughters, Kimberly Dickerson of Nashville, Tenn., and Heather Blackledge of Ellisville; and two sisters, Sharon Shelley of Atlanta and Lisa Merritt of Miami.
He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Blackledge, and a wife, Diana Dickerson, both of Ellisville.
David was a 1967 graduate of Waxahachie High School in Waxahachie, Texas. He followed high school with two services in Vietnam, as a medic helicopter assist and communications specialist. He was proud to be a Vietnam veteran.
He retired in 2014 after 35 years with W.M.B. Reily/Standard Coffee Service. After retirement, he pursued his love for sports becoming the voice of the South Jones Braves. When he wasn’t cheering for local sports, David enjoyed time with his family and friends, attending his Sunday school class at Friendship Baptist Church and watching his favorite sports on TV. Pallbearers are Jack Thompson, Chuck Blackwell, Cory Reynolds, Bobby Glaze, Joe Holifield and Bobby Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers are Vernell Watkins, Larry Ishee and Jay Scoggins.
