She had a deep love for God, her family and her church family. She was a mentor and friend to many and demonstrated love to everyone she encountered.  Her most precious jewels called her “Grandma Doris.” Sitting on her back porch, talking with her children and grandchildren while listening intently and providing wise advice was what she loved.

She was a faithful member of Sand Hill Baptist Church in Ellisville. She loved her church family as her own family. She was an active member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, WMU and Forever Young.

She loved flowers and gardening. She loved to share her flowers and vegetables with others. During the winter months, she would make quilts for her family. She made sure each child, grandchild and great-grandchild had one of her handmade quilts before her passing.

She was preceded in death by husband of 60 years Gail Johnson; father Doyle Pitts; mother Luella Ellzey Pitts; brothers Harold Pitts and Jimmy Pitts; infant son Kenneth Johnson; and son in-law Tommy Finch.

Survivors include son Billy Johnson (Lynn); daughter Elaine Finch; son Robert Johnson (Wanda); brother Wendell Pitts (Ann); sister Janelle Hinton; sister-in-law Ollie Pitts; grandchildren Kelly Graves (Johnny), Heath Johnson (Seliena), Shannon Gable (Scott), Seth Johnson (Laura) and Jacob Johnson (Wendy); 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

Pallbearers will be deacons of Sand Hill Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sand Hill Baptist Church WMU or Building Fund, 69 SandHill Church Road, Ellisville, MS 39437.
