Dr. Benjamin Parker Council, 76, passed away on March 5, 2018 at his home in Laurel.
Ben was born in Fulton, Ky., to Rev. Lowell and Ida Council. Ben married Sandra Edwards Council.
Ben graduated from Peabody High School in Trenton, Tenn. He attained his medical doctorate in 1966 from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He specialized in the field of otorhinolaryngology, completing his residency at Case Western Reserve University and Indiana University. After medical school, Ben was in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. For the past 30 years, Dr. Council has practiced medicine in Laurel.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Sandra Council; sons Benjamin Council (Michelle) and Matthew Council (Laurin); grandchildren Andrew, Emma, Claire, Sophie, John, Katherine and Elliot Council; and brother F.W. Dallas Council (Ann).
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Lowell Council; mother Ida Council; granddaughter Sarah Council; and brother Anthony Council.
Public viewing will be noon-2 p.m. Friday at Ellisville Funeral Home. Services for Dr. Benjamin Council will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ellisville Funeral Home with Brother Glenn McElhenny and Dr. Cary Kimbrell officiating. Burial will follow at Union Seminary Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel.
The Men’s Sunday school Class of Grace Covenant Church will serve as pallbearers.
