Mrs. Esther B. Holifield, 100, a resident of Laurel (Wayne County), passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at her residence.
Visitation for Mrs. Holifield will be noon-2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wayne County. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wayne County with Rev. Dave Moran officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Wayne County.
She was born in Wayne County on Monday, Aug. 27, 1917 to Hardy and Vivian Henderson. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was retired as a teacher for Wayne County and Jones County Public School Systems.
Mrs. Holifield was preceded in death by three husbands, Colon Busby, Charles “Dad” Boutwell and Algia Holifield; father Hardy Henderson; mother Vivian Henderson; son Shafter Busby; three brothers, Leonard Henderson, Denvil Henderson and Hardy Lee Henderson.
She is survived by her stepson-in-law Lavelle Walters of Laurel; sister Mildred Lofton of Waynesboro; three nieces, Carolyn Ann Skinner of California, Debbie Thornton (Bruce) of Biloxi and Scottie Busby (James) of Clara; nephew Tommy Henderson (Joan) of Leakesville; several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
