Laura Virginia Russell, 83, of Bay Springs passed away on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at her home, 77 County Road 1511, Bay Springs.
Laura was simultaneously killed in a tragic house fire along with her son, Robbie Dale Russell, and daughter-in-law, Betty Jean Russell.
She is survived by two sons, Dean Russell (Miriam) of Laurel and Brad Russell (Lawanna) of Mountain View, Ark. Laura is survived by 10 grandchildren, Daniel Russell, Atmore, Ala., Ryan Russell of Mobile, Ala., Steven Russell of Adrian, Mich., Victoria Walker (Prentice) of Louin, Celina Russell of Bay Springs, Jonathan Russell, Joseph Russell and Jeanette Russell, all of Baytown, Texas, Olivia Russell of Laurel and Bridget Russell of Mountain View; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Laura considered herself a lifelong resident of Jasper County although she spent a few years enjoying the quaint little town of Mountain View, Ark., where she developed many new friendships. She was born on April 30, 1934, and enjoyed working for NECO for many years and went on to work and retired from Delco-Remy in Laurel.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband Herschel Russell; one son, Travis Russell; and her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Cecil Russell.
Laura was an active member of First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Bay Springs. She faithfully spent time in God’s word, praying for others, and enjoyed reading. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Services will be Monday with visitation from 1:30-3:30 p.m., with a service immediately following at First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Bay Springs. Burial will follow at Fair Ridge Cemetery in Stringer.
